Everyone has had one. Everyone small child or baby needs one. Security Blankets provide comfort to a small child when it is hurt, confused, or lonely. I had a security blanket when I was little and where ever I went I needed my "blankie". It was my comfort when traveling to grandma's house, to the doctor, or having to stay with the baby sitter while my parents went out. Security Blankets are chosen by the child. For many it is a blanket they have had since they were born. For others it is a plush toy that was in their crib.

My "security" blanket was a vintage Winnie The Pooh blanket with all of the characters printed on it. It was very well loved and very well worn. My blanket even spent several weeks with me at the hospital while I was in traction for a broken leg, following a nasty spill from a horse. It eventually became so tattered and torn that my Mom confiscated it while I was at school one day, I was so sad and thought that I would never see it again.

Fast forward to years later....It was the Christmas of 1993, I was a new mother to my own daughter and the blanket was just a cherished memory. I swear I could still feel the soft wisp of fabric and the "au de Pooh" fragrance that was unique to my blanket if I concentrated hard enough. My mother insisted that I open my gift from her first on that Christmas Eve. Everyone got very quiet and the video camera was rolling as I carefully opened the package. Inside, lovingly pieced into a quilt by my mother who had to teach herself to quilt to do this, was my beloved Pooh blanket. I sobbed and there wasn't a dry eye in the room, the fact that I had my cherished blanket to share with my children and the fact that my mother had so carefully and lovingly salvaged the blanket to create something so special, moved me in a way that I can not put words to.

The Pooh Bear blanket has now been loved by my four babies and is stored away as a family "heirloom" to be enjoyed by my grandbabies years from now.

Thanks for letting me share my story with you, it warmed my heart today to remember.

My security blanket was my teddy bear, does that count?

I slept with him every night, took him everywhere I went. Nobody else could touch him. He's now almost hairless, missing one eye, his tail is holding by a thread, and my husband tried to throw him away once - but he decided he likes living... He was good buddy when I was small and afraid of the dark and he has a perpetual home as long as I'm alive!

When I was growing up I had an 'uffy'. . . I think that was baby speak for fluffy. It was a lamb pyjama case that I'd take everywhere with me. I loved it to bits. And so it seems my little sister did when she got old enough to get into things. Soon enough my beloved 'uffy' was in bits and I had to drag around his tail.

My son Ben has his own woolly to take to bed, but it is a far more washable Merino blanket. He took to it when we were doing the photo shoots for my new business, and hasn't let go since! Luckily I can easily replace it from my stock, and he is none the wiser when we have to wash it!
